Wonder years. Yonder here.

It's hard to believe that almost 30 years flew by...

It feels like yesterday we were lugging our backpacks, struggling to wake up each morning, worried about exams, long bus rides, chit chat, lunch breaks, favorite periods (and those we despised), SUPW (some useful periods wasted), bunking, drill, sports houses, excursions, functions, Zzzz...morning assembly, annual fete, classroom photos, where we all looked our terrible best.

'Everything except studying was fun. It was all things around and the people that made it a joy.'

The lingo and our worldview were it's own. Sneaking in comics, bunking, fighting for the back benches to avoid the teacher's glare, gossiping, playing silly games, raging hormones, stupid jokes, swapping lunch boxes, and sharing what we know. But, hey, we were kids finding our way right?

Then, that pesky thing called life took over.

Fast forward three decades - adulthood, university, few jobs, marriage, kids, ups, and downs of life, aging parents, receding hairlines, waistlines, grey hair et al. Who knew being an adult was not as much fun? It's not part of the job description.

It's déjà vu seeing our kids go to school. Waking them up, their health, exams, parental anxieties, what to pack for lunch, and their growing pains. A new generation before us. Life comes full circle.

Most of us studied at  Bhavans from the early-80s to 1993. Few stayed back for their 11th & 12th grade. So, for many of us, we parted ways, faded away, moved to other cities Remember, this was back in 1993.  Internet, smartphones, social media were non-existent - else they would have wrecked our childhood. Video meant VHS tapes and Doordarshan. Zoom was only in a camera lens. The closest thing was writing a letter or calling a landline.

Many faded away, occasionally, we would remember them; or bump into them, some moved on to other cities and countries. Some stayed back, by choice, and some by chance. There were not many ways to keep in touch. Out of sight, but not out of mind.

One of our favorite things was our classmates, also our  friends. We had wacky, illogical, embarrassing names, but fond memories of them. Sadly, a few passed away before their time. Even teachers were not spared. We had our share of heroes and villains. They all had monikers. The highs, lows, crushes, likes, warts and all are part of what we are, for better or worse. Might as well embrace it.

School might not have been perfect, but it was a special time in our lives. This is about everyone, who all did their best, making us a little of who we are.

Maybe we didn't realize it at the time, but we were making memories. We may have changed physically, but we're still largely the same people we were back then.

Life is short. We are all in our mid-40s (hard to face it gracefully). We may never get the opportunity again or the time back, but we can relive some of those memories and have a good laugh on July 8th, 2023.

Hope to see you all soon and make this a success.

Lots of love & best wishes
